Dr. Gary Lea is a registered psychologist who works with individuals, couples and families.  Areas of interest include helping define and treat work and relationship-related stress, trauma, depression, anger, various addictive behaviours and chronic pain.  Dr. Lea was trained in, and practices cognitive behaviour therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR).

Dr. Lea was raised in Vancouver where he attended the University of British Columbia, and then took graduate training in London, Ontario and in Denver, Colorado, at the School of Professional Psychology of the University of Denver.

He is registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia, and is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association, the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, and an assortment of other professional associations.  He is also a Diplomate and Board Certified Forensic Examiner.

He has assessed approximately 365 children where there were complaints of abuse, and about 320 adult males who have admitted to, or been found guilty of, sexual offenses involving minors.  He has also conducted about 275 comprehensive parental fitness and child custody/access evaluations, and about 1,000 evaluations concerning the psychological and neuropsychological effects of work related (including RCMP) injuries and motor vehicle and other accidents.

Dr. Lea has been in full time private practice as a clinical psychologist in the City of Kelowna since 1984.  He has served as an expert witness on approximately 200 occasions in the Courts of British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.  Dr. Lea is Past Vice President and Board Member of the British Columbia Psychological Association, and has provided supervision and training to a number of Masters and PhD - level students.

After 30 years of practice, Dr. Lea has now scaled back his schedule to a part-time basis.  Please contact the office for more details.
